See here. And also, less currently, this, commemorating a similar feline quietus.

Rather than advertise this as a sad business - which it isn't particularly - you should appreciate not only the emotion of sadness but also the notion that you can feel at all. That's what pets are for, stirring the hearts of emotional spastics. This is precisely why fish make poor pets. And alligators. Fish make poor alligators.

I disagree. Fish make wonderful pets.

Why, just the other day I saw Gaddy weeping inconsolably over the passing of Timmy, his beloved friend of nine years. A truly dear companion, "The Timster" always listened whenever Gaddy needed to vent - never asked for anything in return, never expected anything more than a little food now and again. Just sat there and blew bubbles.

It was truly a sad day when little Timmy finally kicked the bucket after such a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Gaddy was crestfallen.

You'd never expect it, but Gaddy's fish offered the most heartfelt condolences to Timmy's family at the funeral. He didn't even know the lad, yet he was so thoughtful.

And so, that's why I think fish make wonderful pets.

I believe that is a tall tale, sir.
