Sweet young boy caught up in your foul, intellectual privations (i.e. cosmology).

For distant galaxies "we" use redshift as a measure of distance, although the two are not quite the same. When the distance of some galaxies is given by their redshift instead of their true distances, the 3D map of the galaxies is said Toby in redshift space. (as opposed to "real space")
